Fun Fact

Migration between Peru and Japan has flowed both ways: Peru was the first Latin American country to receive Japanese immigrants (the Sakura Maru, 1899) — and in 1990 their Nikkei descendants gained a visa pathway back. Today two thirds of Peruvian residents are permanent residents, the highest share of any nationality.
